Embracing electric: Stepping up our green credentials

Adding to our existing hybrids, the Goddards operational team have taken delivery of another car, extending our company Ford and Toyota fleet.

We have also been using a pure EV van since March 2023 as we explore the best options to further reduce our CO2 emissions across the business.  As the development of larger EV vans moves forward in efficiency and practicality, we are also monitoring how we can incorporate models with a viable range and weight-carrying capacity into the fleet also.

Returning To Wembley Park: Ground And Podium Soft Landscapes

Extending the soft landscape collaboration at Wembley Park, Goddards will be returning to site at North East Lands this May (2024). The first phase (NE02 & 03), awarded by John Sisk and Sons Limited, will see the delivery and planting of large trees from 40-45cm to 65-70cm girth, plus large multi-stems throughout the design.  The first of these, supplied by Baumschule Lorenz von Ehren, a stunning 60cm girth Catalpa weighing in at over 3500kg, was delivered in May 2024 hoisted up to the podium and upright and planted on the same day.

Our previous collaboration with Sisk saw the completion of our 2021 BALI Award winning podium landscape at Canada Gardens in the category “Roof Gardens/Living Wall Installations Commercial Roof Garden or Podium Landscaping Under £500K”.

Two Podium Landscapes

As well as the ground level landscape, we will be constructing two podium gardens within this scheme.  Across the planting plan, we will be supply and planting herbaceous, grasses, shrubs and wildflower turf, as well as reinforced grass and aquatics.

  • Trees: planting semi-mature trees up to 65-70cm girth
  • Plants: Herbaceous, shrubs, grasses
  • Softscape: Wildflower turf, reinforced grass, aquatics

These works will be completed by April 2025.

Contractor Excellence Award: Congratulations to Jamie Kerr

It is always good to hear client feedback about our projects and the teams who deliver them across the South East. This month, we were contacted by one of Berkeley Homes‘ Senior Contract Managers, Alan Hopley.  Alan, who is responsible for the Leighwood Fields development and management of the subcontractors across its programme, was pleased to share that they had awarded Contractor Supervisor of the Month for May 2024 to our very own Jamie Kerr.

The Goddards team always maintain high standards not only in their work ethics but also working safely, efficiently & keeping their work areas clean & tidy.”

Congratulations from all of us to Jamie and his team – this is a real reflection of the standards we deliver across our portfolio.

The soft landscaping development continues on site as new house construction is completed, in preparation for homeowners taking residence.

Soft landscape works begin at Royal Bournemouth Hospital

Fulfilling a 15-week soft landscape delivery and a 24-month maintenance programme, the Goddards Landscape teams will be active on site at Royal Bournemouth Hospital from May 2024.  The soft landscape works package forms part of the IHP joint venture between Sir Robert McAlpine and Vinci Construction.

Soft landscape delivery

Placing topsoil and subsoil, supplying and planting multi-stem trees and specimen shrubs, and mulching, the landscape will create a welcoming swathe of natural planting around the new Main Entrance (MEA) and Emergency Centre (WCEC).

Landscape Chessington: Jungle-themed planting at Jumanji

In 2023, Goddards were engaged by The Merlin Group to help develop a soft landscape scheme for a brand new experience at their Chessington World of Adventure site. Following the landscape design and development, we were appointed to supply and plant the stock.  Completing the surrounding jungle landscape, Jumanji came to life in time for maximum half-term enjoyment.

Bamboos and striking specimens

The scheme featured a number of specimen bamboos in 200 litre pots at 8-9m tall and over 50 in 70 litre pots at 3-4m tall. Interspersed for colour, form and interest were Cordylines, Trachycarpus and Phormiums as well as a selection of semi-mature Eucalyptus and Paulownia trees. These specimens were then underplanted with 20 litre grasses as well as visually stunning Choisya, Cordyline, Phormium, Rhus and 5-10 litre groundcover stock to carpet the “jungle” floor.

With the testing of the ride and other contractor works creating a tight programme as we headed for completion, our grounds teams could often only start works at 4pm, continuing to work into the early hours using task lighting – so huge gratitude to the patience and diligence of the teams involved.

Looking more than impressive as the ride opened, as the planting has continued to establish, it continues to fill out and impress as it matures.

Landscape and waterscape in unison

A blend of wildflower seeding, tree planting and ornamental shrubs creates this glorious array of colour across this rural estate in Berkshire.

Alongside a small housing development, the landscape design on the approach to the estate included a sympathetically landscape pond. With pinpoint communication from the earliest stage and throughout, the in-house and on-site teams liaised with the client to ensure this stunning waterside landscape came to its beautiful, professional conclusion.

Client satisfaction at every stage

The surrounding landscape included wildflower seeding and the planting of indigenous trees, accompanied by hedging and ornamental shrub planting as well as turf to the front and rear of plots. The Goddards soft landscaping team undertook the project from plant and tree sourcing to completion, managing an unpredictable programme period and maintaining close supervision of the schedule to ensure the client was satisfied at every stage.
